Stakeholders from Anambra Central have accused Senator Victor Umeh and Senator Neda Imasuen of collecting bribes to support the controversial emergency rule in Rivers State.
In a statement signed by Chukwuebuka Ekpechi, the stakeholders alleged that both Labour Party senators received $5,000 each during an “Iftar Prayer” at Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s Maitama Guest House.
They claimed the meeting was a preparatory step to rally support for the emergency rule.
The statement further alleged that on Wednesday night, Umeh and Imasuen were the only Labour Party senators who received an additional $10,000 each and pledged their support for the emergency rule.
“The attention of Concerned Citizens of Anambra Central has been drawn to BAREFACED LIES, DENIALS AND ATTACK ON SAHARAREPORTERS by our Senator, Victor Umeh and we state as follows:
(a) That Senator Victor’s denial amount to an effort in futility because the said “IFTAR PRAYER” on Tuesday night at Senate President’s Maitama Guest House was a preparatory ground for the support of selected Senators to support the obnoxious emergency Rule in Rivers State.
Senator Umeh of Labour Party and Senator Neda Imasuen of Labour Party were given $5,000 dollars each. Let Senator Victor Umeh who has admitted that he went to IFTAR PRAYER (breaking of Fasting for Muslims) to pray for peace in Rivers and Nigeria as to “POPE” OR As “PASTOR” of Nigerian Senate mention the names of other Labour Party Senators present at Senate President’s Guest house on Tuesday night where he said his “prayer”.
“He should be free to mention their names as he claimed that other Labour Party Senators were present on Tuesday.
(B) That for Wednesday night when Senator Umeh and Senator Neda Imasuen were the only Labour Party Senators that collected $10,000 each and Pledged their unflinching support to obnoxious Rivers EMERGENCY rule.
Both of them also pledged to be in Senate Chamber on Thursday to support the Rivers emergency Rule and both of them kept to their promise they made to Senate President. Both of them were in Chambers on Thursday and supported the emergency Rule in the Senate’s Executive/closed door session.
“With emphasis, only 2 of them were the Labour Party Senators who partook of this dollars bazaar and also only two of them were Labour Party Senators present in executive session on Thursday when the emergency Rule was approved with voice vote without the required 72 Senators concurrence as required by the Law.
We challenge Senator Victor Umeh to mention any name of any Labour Party Senator that partook in Thursday dollars bazaar or alternatively any name of LABOUR PARTY SENATOR THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE EXECUTIVE/CLOSED DOOR SESSION OF THURSDAY WHEN THE APPROVAL WAS GIVEN AT SENATE CHAMBERS EXCEPT HIMSELF AND SENATOR NEDA IMASUEN.
“(C) We challenge Senator Victor Umeh to explain to the people of Anambra Central when Senate has appointed him the Spokesman of the 10th Senate.
“(D) Let him tell Nigerians what his interest is and who sponsored his Television appearances in TVC, AIT, CHANNELS TV AND ARISE TV where he criticised Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan fiercely; defending the Senate’s hurried approval of National Anthem BILL that never went through proper public scrutiny; defending many policies of APC led Federal Government.
Who are his paymasters? WHO APPOINTED HIM SPOKESMAN OF SENATE OR THAT OF FEDERAL GOVT OR THAT OF APC? What Party is SENATOR VICTOR UMEH representing today in the Senate? At least it is an open secret that Senator Neda Imasuen will soon join APC where his Boss, Senator Mathew Uroghide (whom he served as Chief of Staff) is holding sway.”
The allegations against Senator Umeh reinforce a report that exposed how some senators, including Umeh and Imasuen, allegedly received large sums to support the emergency rule.
“Let posterity judge Senator Victor Umeh, self-appointed spokesman of APC led FG and Senate leadership who wants to be clever by half,” the stakeholders added.
“We will not sit idly by while Senator Umeh betrays the trust of the people who elected him.”
