These hideouts were connected to the ongoing unrest in Ezioha and Eziama Autonomous Community, Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
The operation, known as “Operation Udoka,” led in the neutralisation of four individuals, the arrest of five others, and the discovery of firearms and other incriminating items associated with the suspects.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye, in a statement on Sunday, said, “The operation led to the killing of four suspects, the arrest of five, recovery of various firearms and other items linked to the suspects.”
He highlighted that the success of the operation is due to the collaboration between the security agencies and their renewed dedication to improving security and addressing insurgency.
Along with other senior service commanders, Aboki Danjuma, the State’s Commissioner of Police, visited Ezioha to assess the ongoing operations targeting criminal hideouts linked to violent attacks and kidnappings.
The operation reportedly involved a intense gunbattle with the suspects, resulting in the recovery of eight motorcycles, numerous dangerous weapons, explosive devices, and communication equipment.
Notable individuals present during the assessment were Brigadier General U.A. Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Obinze; Air Commodore David Bello, Commander of the NAF 211 Quick Response Group in Owerri; Commodore M.B. Salisu, Naval Commander in Oguta; the DSS Commander; the NSCDC Commander; and Brig. Gen. Joseph Ogbonna (Rtd.), the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Affairs.
