The founder and presiding bishop of Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has defended the church’s pastoral retirement policy in the face of criticism, according to The Vanguard. The retirement of Bishops David Abioye and Thomas Aremu, who served for thirty and forty years, respectively, is the subject of dispute. At Bishop Aremu’s goodbye service, Oyedepo stressed following established protocols in a sermon. He mentioned that the Administrative Policy of the church was first presented in 1998, reevaluated in 2001, and updated most recently in 2024. The goal of this policy adjustment is to uphold the church’s fundamental principles while promoting fresh leadership.
Oyedepo will continue to hold office indefinitely, but subsequent leaders will only be able to hold office for one or two seven-year terms, subject to Board of Trustees approval. Rebuking his critics, he said, “My advice to commentators is to study to be quiet and mind your own business.”
