The Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Kitson Chisale, a police officer based at Lulanga Police Unit, to 18 years in prison for defiling a 15-year-old girl. “On the said night, the convict through a friend enticed the victim and took her to his house and the girl spent a night there. The incident was later reported to the police which led to the arrest of the accused,” said Makiyi.
Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate, Muhammad Chande, the convict pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him, which prompted the state to parade witnesses.
But the convict’s lawyer, Upile Mapata, prayed for the court’s leniency, stating that the convict is a first time offender and he was remorseful. But this did not deter Senior Resident Magistrate Chande, who said the convict deserved a harsh treatment to deter would be offenders.
