The new price of ₦899.50 per litre marks a considerable decrease from the previous price of ₦970 per litre, which was introduced just a few weeks earlier on November 24. This reduction is part of Dangote Refinery’s ongoing commitment to alleviating the financial pressures on Nigerians, especially as the country enters the festive period.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the company on Thursday morning, signed by the Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina. In his statement, Chiejina explained that the refinery’s decision to lower fuel prices is intended to offer Nigerians some financial relief, particularly as fuel costs tend to rise during holiday seasons. He emphasized that the price cut was not just about lowering costs but also ensuring that citizens have access to high-quality fuel during the festivities.
In addition to the price reduction, Dangote Petroleum Refinery is offering a special holiday promotion to further benefit its customers. As part of this initiative, consumers who purchase PMS on a cash basis will be granted the opportunity to buy an additional litre of fuel on credit. This offer is backed by a bank guarantee from one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions—Access Bank, First Bank, or Zenith Bank—providing a layer of security for the transaction. The refinery’s decision to offer this discount and credit option also reflects its broader commitment to supporting the Nigerian economy and its people. Chiejina also took the opportunity to express the company’s sincere appreciation to Nigerians for their unwavering support, particularly as the country enters the holiday season. He reiterated that Dangote Petroleum Refinery is dedicated to ensuring that Nigerians have access to high-quality petroleum products that are not only competitively priced but are also environmentally friendly and safe for use in vehicles and machinery.
Dangote Refinery, with its remarkable capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (BPD), is the largest single-train refinery in the world. Its operations represent a major milestone for Nigeria, as it marks the end of the country’s reliance on imported substandard and often harmful petroleum products. These imported fuels have historically posed significant risks to human health, machinery, and the environment. By producing domestically refined petroleum products, Dangote Refinery aims to eliminate the influx of “blended” and low-quality fuel products, thereby ensuring that Nigerians have access to fuel that meets international standards.
Chiejina further highlighted that Dangote Refinery is more than capable of meeting 100% of Nigeria’s domestic petroleum product requirements, with additional capacity available for export. This is a significant achievement for the country, which has long struggled with refining capacity shortages and reliance on fuel imports. With Dangote Refinery now operational, Nigeria can expect to see a reduction in its dependence on imported refined products and, in the long term, a boost to the local economy.
