Utweets understands that the incident occurred in a remote area between Ba’anfani and Koleram, located in the Lake Chad Basin of Borno State.
According to a report from counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the explosion took place as the militants were constructing IEDs, which were likely intended for planned attacks in the region. Sources revealed that the incident was a result of the mishandling of the devices during their assembly.
The Lake Chad Basin has become a significant operational hub for ISWAP, which frequently employs IEDs as part of its terror tactics to maintain influence and conduct attacks in the region.
Meanwhile, Nigerian Special Forces, as part of Operation Fansan Yanma, have been conducting active patrols along the Sokoto border to address the threats posed by the insurgent group Lakurawa, which is believed to have established a presence in the area.
Intelligence reports shared with Makama indicated that these patrols have systematically covered all border-adjacent communities, aiming to safeguard residents and prevent any possible attacks.
