During an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, September 25, he noted that the dismissal of Philip Shaibu as Deputy Governor in the lead-up to the polls contributed to his defeat.

Shaibu, who ran on the same ticket as Obaseki in 2020, is from Edo North.

“The reason why Edo North voted against Obaseki is because, firstly, he promised them an airport, which they have not seen today. Additionally, the only person they had in the government, Comrade Philip Shaibu, was removed without following the due process of law. So, that was enough for the Edo people to stand up and say, this government has failed, and we don’t want this government,” he said.

He continued: “Secondly, let’s not forget that Obaseki refused to inaugurate the House of Assembly for four years. These constituencies who voted for these representatives went through this period without representation in the House of Assembly.”

“This also contributed to the reasons why the PDP, Asue Ighodalo, and Obaseki lost in Edo North. Now, moving to Esan, you can see the dilapidated roads in Esan districts. He refused to fix those roads, which is why the Esan people voted against Godwin Obaseki.”

“Now, in Benin, Governor Obaseki promised to deliver a new seaport called Gelegele Seaport to the people, but he failed to do so. Additionally, Godwin Obaseki has demolished more than 7,000 houses in Edo State, in Benin.”

“Don’t forget, Governor Obaseki has illegally acquired properties, including landed properties belonging to patriotic Edo citizens, both at home and abroad. All of these factors culminated in the Edo people’s decision to say this government has to go. Voting for Asue Ighodalo is a continuation and continuity of Obaseki in government.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Saturday’s Edo State governorship election.

The returning officer, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, announced that the APC candidate garnered a total of 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) came third with 22,763 votes.

Kuta, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, said the APC won the highest number of votes in 11 out of the state’s 18 local government areas, while the PDP led in seven. “That Okpebholo Monday of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Kuta declared....For More READ THE FULL STORY ▶▶
