AIRS is an autonomous service responsible for generating revenue in the state.

The incident allegedly occurred at Onitsha head bridge on December 11, 2024 while workers of the agency were chasing a vehicle reportedly without the required permits.

Chukwuma Onyebuchi, son of the deceased, told SaharaReporters that his father’s remains were deposited in a morgue without their knowledge.

Chukwuma added that his corpse was later found at the morgue after many days of fruitless search in the city.

“This is to bring to the world’s notice about an incident of murder by Anambra State Government revenue collection people at Onitsha head Bridge. My father, Chief Isaiah Onyebuchi, was hit by their vehicle on pursuit of another vehicle and his phone stolen. His body was subsequently dumped in mortuary without treatment,” he said.

“And the body started decaying before we found him. Please, help us bring this case to the attention of the government, we need justice. This happened on December 11, 2024, the deceased was a community leader and well respected.”

Efforts made by SaharaReporters to reach the agency failed as the numbers listed on its website were inactive.
