“I am staying back because of the flood,” said a mother holding her two school children about 150 metres from the flooded pathways. Any time it rains, it is always a problem along this road. We expect the government to come to our aid. It can be fatal, and we need urgent government attention. No one knows who will be a victim.”

Commercial tricycle riders and okada operators refused plying the route. One of them said, “It is terrible. Only jeeps can pass through that road. It flooded the double lanes. Even if you pay me N100, 000, count me out.”

A resident of the area, whose house was submerged, Paulinus Ezea, said rainy seasons are always a nightmare for them.

According to him, “The central drainage constructed by the past government of Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was blocked through indiscriminate refuse disposal. You can see that my compound is flooded. Whenever it rains, especially in the night, we remain on the edge because anything can happen. We have been submerged a few times. Our appeal goes to the state government to come to our aid.” THE WHISTLER saw about three vehicles parked up as their drivers tried to navigate the flooded areas.
