Nwaka’s move to the APC follows his quiet resignation from the PDP on June 12, 2024, which he made public on August 30, citing “personal reasons.”
Nwaka, who was a governorship aspirant in the 2023 general election, was formally welcomed into the APC by Sampson Achi Ndukwe, the party’s chairman for Oguduasa Ward 5, in a ceremony attended by Chief Udochi Okorie, the APC chairman for Isuikwuato Local Government, and other party officials.
The defection, which was hinted at when a photo of Nwaka receiving his APC membership card surfaced online, marks another significant shift in Abia’s political landscape. Nwaka’s political aide confirmed the move and stated that the senator would soon address the public on his decision.
This latest defection adds to the wave of high-profile exits from the PDP in Abia, following the party’s loss of its longstanding dominance in the state during the 2023 governorship election. Other notable figures, including former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, have also left the PDP for the APC.
