Reuben Atabo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) representing the Abacha family, confirmed the reinstatement on Tuesday, calling it a significant legal and political development. He also stated that the revocation had caused considerable embarrassment to the Abacha family, which led them to take legal action against the state government.
The two properties in question are located at No. 9 Abakpa GRA and No. 1 Degel Road, Ungwan Rimi GRA, in Kaduna. In 2022, these properties were seized under allegations of violating occupancy terms set by the Land Use Act. The seizure was publicly announced on April 28, 2022, with the name of General Abacha appearing on the list of affected individuals.
Governor Uba Sani, however, reversed the revocation in two official letters dated December 10, 2024, issued by the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS). Both letters, signed by Mustapha Haruna on behalf of the Director-General of KADGIS, outlined that the properties would be reinstated on the condition that the family settles any outstanding fees and charges associated with the properties. One of the letters stated, “His Excellency, the Governor of Kaduna State, has, in the powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act 1978, reinstated the aforementioned title… Subject to the strict condition of settling all outstanding fees and charges.”
The Abacha family, through their lawyer, welcomed the decision, calling it an act of fairness and justice. This development marks a shift from the previous administration of El-Rufai, which had based the revocation of the properties on alleged “various contraventions” of the Land Use Act.WATCH THE VIDEO HOW SHE THREW HIM| YOUNG MOTHER THREW HER 10 MONTH OLD BABY INTO DELTA RIVER| POLICE FUMES AS SHE WAS ARRESTED.
The reversal of the revocation signals a change in the state’s approach to property ownership disputes and has raised questions about the political and legal dynamics within Kaduna State’s governance. It also reflects the ongoing tension between legal frameworks and political decisions regarding property rights, particularly when it involves high-profile individuals or families.…READ -THE.FULL_ARTICLE.HERE.
