The president ratified the bill on Monday, July 29, during a Federal Executive Council meeting attended by Cabinet members and the leadership of the National Assembly.

On July 23, President Tinubu submitted a bill to the House of Representatives, proposing a new national minimum wage of ₦70,000 for Nigerian workers.

This action follows a recent agreement between the President and Organized Labour leaders, reached last Thursday, which established the new minimum wage amount. Information Minister Mohammed Idris had stated, “the new national minimum that Mr President is expected to submit to the National Assembly is ₦70,000.”

The Nigerian Senate also passed the proposed minimum wage bill within an hour on the same day, completing the three required readings.

Introduced by President Tinubu, the legislation seeks to significantly increase the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
