Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Obi expressed his willingness to sacrifice everything to see the country thrive.
Utweets reports that Obi criticized the ruling class, accusing them of isolating him for advocating a better Nigeria. “It is extremely difficult to be in opposition in this country. Everything is against you,” he said, describing how some of his colleagues avoid engaging with him in public.
Criticism of Current Policies
Obi condemned the government’s continuous tax hikes, arguing that it is unfair to impose taxes on citizens who are struggling to survive in a country he described as unproductive.
“Tax is a function of productivity,” he explained. “How can you tax over 100 million Nigerians living in extreme poverty? How do you tax those in IDP camps or factories that have shut down? The government must first make the country productive and create jobs before increasing taxes.”
He also highlighted the deteriorating business environment, the rising number of unemployed citizens, and the alarming rate of out-of-school children as indicators of the country’s failing systems.
Call for Unity
Obi urged all well-meaning Nigerians to unite and work towards saving the country from collapse. He painted a grim picture of daily life in Nigeria, where food insecurity has reached alarming levels, with middle-income earners spending nearly all their income on basic necessities or borrowing to eat.
“I saw 1,500 children yesterday who were out of school. When I asked three of them if they wanted to go to school, they said yes. What are we doing as a nation?”
A Vision for the Future
The former Anambra State governor emphasized the urgency of building a productive economy and fostering unity. “Let me assure you, what is on the table now is that everybody who means well should come together to get the country to work. None of us will be here forever. Let’s stop the lies, the propaganda, and the bamboozling of the people. Let’s build this country,” he urged.STRANGE INDEED!
