The lifeless body of an unidentified man was discovered on Friday under the Okefia Bridge in Osogbo, Osun State. While the exact circumstances of his death remain unclear, eyewitnesses noted that the man was found partially unclad, raising concerns over the nature of the incident.
Chibuzor, a local trader in the area, stated that the body was first noticed around midday. Alarmed by the discovery, concerned individuals promptly notified security personnel, who immediately began investigating the situation. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) responded swiftly to the scene and was soon joined by officials from the Osogbo West Local Government.
A bag containing clothes was reportedly found near the body, though no further information about its contents was provided. Authorities have documented the surrounding environment and other possible evidence as part of their investigation into the cause of death.
Adeleke Kehinde, spokesperson for the Osun NSCDC, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation was underway. She explained that the body was discovered on December 27 and that local government officials had been informed immediately upon the discovery. The body was quickly evacuated to prevent further decomposition.
As the investigation continues, there have been calls for increased security around the flyovers in Osogbo. Lamina Kamiludeen Omotoyosi, Executive Director of the World Institute of Peace (WIP), urged the Osun State Police Command and the state government to take action to secure the flyovers to prevent them from becoming hotspots for criminal activity.
