Speaking when he received the vice president, Kashim Shettima and members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, the president said the aim of local government autonomy is to drive development to the grassroots.
A statement issued on Wednesday, January 1, by the special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president was quoted saying that the governors are the most important link to the nation’s development.
He dispelled rumours making ground that the government at the federal level is in disagreement with the governors of the issue of LG autonomy.
His words, “We will not fight within us. I will drive the change. You control your local governments. You can restore hope by effectively fulfilling what the people expect at the grassroots level.
