Wike said Peter Obi and his loyalists lobbied him to join their movement before the election, but he turned them down, believing they wouldn’t win the elections.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike said he was not ready to waste Rivers’ votes on someone he thought would not succeed.
According to him, “Peter Obi’s group lobbied me so much. They cannot deny it. And I said ‘look, this one won’t fly.’ ‘Rivers State will not vote for where it’s not going to fly’. There’s also a gang up and I say, ‘look, enough is enough.’ They want to fight us back. They’re fighting themselves.”
Despite the wave of support he received ahead of the elections and emerging as a credible third force, Peter Obi came in third in the polls, where Bola Tinubu emerged as the winner.
Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, all won 12 states each. Tinubu was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for polling the highest number of votes.
In Rivers State, the polls were marred by massive rigging and rewriting of result sheets in favor of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. There were also reports of political thugs allegedly deployed by Wike, compelling voters to cast their votes for a particular candidate, as well as stories of vote-buying.👉 For More READ FULL CONTENT FROM THE SOURCE ↔️
