Speaking during a media parley on Sunday, January 20, Wike stated that Fubara had failed to honor the directives given by President Tinubu and asserted that there was no way forward in resolving their political differences.

The political tension between Wike and Fubara, his successor, stems from a power struggle over the state’s political structure. Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, has accused Fubara of tampering with his political structure.

During the interview, Wike revealed that President Tinubu had mediated a peace agreement, urging all parties to withdraw the impeachment notice and take specific steps to resolve the crisis. However, Wike alleged that Fubara’s camp did not fully implement the agreement.

“I’m wondering, what conflict to resolve? Mr. President, in his wisdom, called all parties. He said withdraw the impeachment notice, you go and do this, you go and do that, but they never returned to him,” Wike stated.

Wike claimed that while the impeachment notice was withdrawn and some conditions were fulfilled, Fubara sent representatives to court instead of following through with the remaining peace directives. He further alleged that Fubara’s camp dismissed the peace deal brokered by the President as mere politics.

The minister also criticized Fubara for running the legislative arm with only four members, calling it inappropriate governance.

The crisis dates back to December 18, 2023, when both Wike and Fubara signed a peace agreement at the presidential villa under the mediation of President Tinubu. Political elders and stakeholders from the state were also part of the accord.

As part of the agreement, the parties resolved to withdraw impeachment proceedings and court cases. However, the political feud escalated, leading to the demolition of the state legislative chamber and further attempts to impeach Fubara.

On December 25, 2023, Governor Fubara publicly committed to implementing the eight agreed-upon terms of the peace deal, describing them as achievable and not “death sentences.”.

Despite this, Wike expressed frustration, indicating that the peace process has stalled due to Fubara’s alleged non-compliance.…READ THE FULL CONTENT FROM THE SOURCE
