They seek the restoration of the role to complete its tenure, a demand made during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.
The meeting, which included other prominent figures such as former governors Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Idris Wada (Kogi), as well as the party’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), addressed ongoing concerns about the PDP’s internal challenges, particularly in light of the vacancy created by the departure of former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The PDP has faced significant internal discord in recent years, with divisions widening before and after the 2023 general elections. The party has struggled to regain its footing, and its current acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, has faced criticism for his inability to effectively address these lingering crises. Damagum took over after Ayu was ousted by a court ruling that held Ayu’s failure to implement necessary reforms as a key factor in his removal.
In their communiqué, the North Central PDP leaders argued that the party’s constitution clearly stipulates that vacant leadership positions should be filled by representatives from the same zone. They cited Section 47(6) of the PDP constitution, which allows for this kind of succession, urging the party leadership to take decisive action to restore the chairmanship to North Central, ensuring that the zone completes its tenure. They stressed that this move is essential for rebuilding the party’s integrity and unity, which they believe will help restore its standing in Nigerian politics.
The communiqué also emphasized the necessity of party unity and peace as vital components for the PDP’s future success. The leaders urged all stakeholders to set aside differences and work toward building a broad consensus within the party. They further expressed a strong commitment to ensuring that the PDP remains a viable and effective platform for promoting good governance in Nigeria.
Concluding their statement, the North Central PDP leaders assured the public that the region is united in its resolve to strengthen the party.V!DEO GOES VIRAL| MAN C4UGHT AND ARRESTED FOR SL33PING WITH 3 GIRLS 13-22 YEARS OLD| SEE SOME OF THE PHOTOS HERE.
They reiterated that their appeal to other zones is not merely a political move, but a call for the necessary sacrifices and compromises to ensure the PDP can once again serve as a force for positive change in the country.…READ -THE.FULL_ARTICLE.HERE.
