According to Sahara Reporters, Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, the senior lecturer and Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, managed to escape from his abductors during a police rescue operation in Enugu. Ujam was reportedly abducted on October 26, 2024, along the Opi-Ugwuogo-Abakpa Nike Road while in transit.
According to the Enugu State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, a suspected kidnap attempt was thwarted on October 28, around 7:10 p.m., near the Neke-Uno axis of the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road. During an exchange of gunfire, Ujam seized an opportunity to flee, while the kidnappers reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines with 22 rounds, and a chain of 39 live ammunition abandoned by the suspects.
DSP Ndukwe refuted claims circulating online about a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer’s alleged kidnapping in the area, describing such reports as baseless.
The police command reassured the public of safety along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road, adding that scaremongering reports were unfounded. Enugu’s Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has since directed additional deployments to strengthen security efforts on the route. ..ALSO READ FULL FROM SOURCE ↔️
