It was reported that the newly elected chairman, Brain Gokpa, along with his councillors and supporters went to the secretariat only to find some buildings in the complex on fire.
This incident follows the recently concluded election where all the PDP local government councils lost their seats to the Action Peoples Party (APP).
According to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the APP reportedly won 22 out of the 23 local government area chairmanship seats in Rivers State.
Both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected the election results and the declaration of winners.
As a result, there is intense fear of potential violence outbreaks in some LGAs of the state.
