Atiku, who was the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, called for an investigation into the event, which he described as an “anomaly” and a “serious breach of military tradition.” He expressed his dismay over a video circulating online, showing a group of young men in military attire performing a military procession for Seyi Tinubu.

“It is with utter dismay and concern that Nigerians were subjected to a nauseating video circulating online, where a group of young men, armed and in full military procession, bestowed upon the President’s son unwarranted military honours,” Atiku said, criticizing the act as inappropriate.

Military Responds
In response, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, stated that the military had no knowledge of the personnel involved in the video. During an interview with Punch, Gusau confirmed that the individuals in the footage did not belong to the Nigerian military.

“They are not our personnel. We don’t dress that way. We don’t have this type of badge of rank. We don’t know them,” Gusau clarified after being shown a screenshot from the video.

In the viral video, Seyi Tinubu is seen inspecting a guards parade while being accorded presidential honours, with personnel dressed in military-like uniforms. However, the military has now distanced itself from the event, emphasizing that the individuals involved were not recognized as official members of the armed forces.
