Reports indicate that Turji and his armed followers have made life unbearable for locals in Shinkafi and on the road connecting Isa in Sokoto State.
Turji’s Warning to the Government
Turji reportedly issued an ultimatum to the Nigerian government, demanding the release of his in-law, who was recently apprehended by security forces in Shinkafi. He warned that failure to comply would result in a resurgence of his violent activities in the area.
A resident of the area revealed that the bandit leader’s threats have already translated into action, as his foot soldiers have begun terrorizing communities. Turji’s actions have further destabilized Shinkafi, worsening the plight of residents who are now abandoning their homes to seek safety elsewhere.
Former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has expressed deep concern over the escalating violence. He lamented that Turji has already carried out some of his threats, citing an attack on a vehicle along the Jangeru to Cheki road. During the incident, several passengers were killed, and multiple vehicles were set ablaze.
