UTWEETS reports that in an interview with AIT shared on Sunday, Chief Eze highlighted that President Tinubu genuinely cares for the South-East and would address many of the region’s concerns, including feelings of marginalization. He pointed out that despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) losing the South-East in the 2023 general elections, President Tinubu has already shown significant care and attention to the needs of the region.
Eze clarified that the detention of Nnamdi Kanu was the result of the former administration under President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he described as a hardliner. “Kanu was detained by Muhammadu Buhari, not Tinubu. Buhari is a hardliner. But we shall appeal to Tinubu to forgive him. He has the spirit of forgiveness. He has no enemy,” Eze said. He expressed optimism that Tinubu’s leadership, which he believes is rooted in compassion and reconciliation, would lead to Kanu’s release.
In addition, Chief Eze praised President Tinubu for the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), a long-awaited initiative that he believes will significantly improve infrastructure and address long-standing issues in the region.
“We need to thank the President for his concerns towards addressing the infrastructure gaps in the South-East region. We have clamoured for this Commission since the end of the Nigeria/Biafra war without success. The SEDC, according to Eze, will play a crucial role in creating jobs for the region’s youth and addressing security challenges. The Managing Director of the Commission, Mike Okoye, hails from Ukpo in Dunukofia, Anambra State, and appointments have also been made from Imo, Enugu, Abia, and Ebonyi states, further reflecting the inclusive nature of the initiative.
Furthermore, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, alongside political, religious, and traditional leaders from the South-East, have consistently demanded the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
