On social media, Nigerians are urging the United Nations, other organisations and individuals to retract their $6 million relief fund donation to the state government.

They argue that the Borno State government has not adequately addressed the needs of those affected by the flooding, despite the numerous donations pouring in.

The flooding occurred on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, after the collapse of the Alau Dam, resulting in loss of lives and property destruction. This is the worst flooding in decades, forcing millions of residents to flee their homes.

Donations have been pouring in from within Nigeria and around the world to support the flood victims.

Some of the donors who have publicly contributed to the victims through the Borno State government include:

The United Nations donated $6 million

Former Vice President donated N100 million

The Nigerian Senate donated N74 million.

The Northern Senators Forum donated N10 million

Senator Barau personally donated N10 million.

The World Health Organization (WHO) pledged support for the displaced thousands and damaged communities.

Elder statesman and business magnate Alhaji Aminu Dantata donated N1.5 billion

Aliko Dangote donated N1 billion and Peter Obi donated N50 million to the flood victims.

A video shared on social media by activist, Vicent Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, showed several victims begging for items being distributed at around 12:00 am on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

However, the state government has released a video showing how food and cash are being given to the victims of the flood in Maiduguri.

The activist believes the donations would not be used to assist the victims. He cited an example of the palliatives that were given during the COVID-19 pandemic, which were hoarded by some persons rather than given to the people.ALSO READ HERE: 18+ 3:00 MINUTES. H0T. VIDEO.
