Nkunku teases double injury news update as Chelsea star targets return....PROCEED.FULL.READING>>>
Christopher Nkunku has dropped another injury update as he closes in on a return to Chelsea training. The 25-year-old forward, who joined the Blues from RB Leipzig in the summer for £52million, was dealt a major blow to his knee during a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund.
After months out of action, Nkunku has now stepped up his rehabilitation programme. The France international has recently returned to the gym, lifting weights alongside some occasional ball work.
Taking to Instagram to show off his hard work, Nkunku posted two black and white filtered pictures of himself in the gym. Last month, he posted a similar selection of images to his account showing him in the swimming pool and undergoing a medical test on his knee.
While Nkunku has been working hard to get back into shape, he’s not expected to make a full recovery until as late as the New Year. Chelsea have certainly suffered in his absence, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side six points off Liverpool in the race for a Champions League qualification spot.
There is optimism that once the Frenchman is available for selection he’ll fire the west Londoners up the table. But, in the meantime, it’s up to his Chelsea teammates to lay the foundations to a late top-four charge.
Following the Blues’ 4-1 win over Burnley before the international break, Pochettino was asked how he plans to keep everybody in his squad happy with several big names returning from the treatment room. The 51-year-old said: “I was telling you when we lost some games against Nottingham Forest and West Ham that we are building something.
“We are a young group. We are a young team, it doesn’t mean we have signed young players or experienced players, we’re together and what happened in the summer, it’s about a matter of time. We were performing very well but of course players and individuals improve to add to the team, a bit of quality.
“That is only with time to know each other and to start to perform. We start to recover players now because we suffered too many injuries, also it’s going to help the team increase the level and the competition will be tough. Then it will be tough for me to select an XI but it is a thing I love to do and I hope it happens soon.”
