The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued additional sanctions against the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) following recent controversies. These measures include a $20,000 fine and a requirement for Libya to play their next two matches behind closed doors, following violent incidents involving Libyan fans at a recent game.
CAF’s latest decision comes after Libya’s recent appeal against an earlier ruling, which awarded Nigeria’s Super Eagles three points and three goals in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification series. This ruling stemmed from a previous incident when the Nigerian team was detained for over 20 hours at Libya’s Al Abaq airport, deprived of basic needs like food and water. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) later decided to pull the Super Eagles from the qualifying match and requested their immediate return home.
CAF initially penalized the Libyan federation with a $50,000 fine and upheld Nigeria’s victory due to Libya’s failure to meet CAF’s hospitality requirements for visiting teams. However, Libya quickly appealed, attempting to overturn the decision favoring Nigeria. The recent penalties serve as an added response to security and hospitality lapses by Libyan football authorities. ..ALSO READ FULL FROM SOURCE ↔️
