The nefarious scheme came to light during an investigation into Farhad Shakeri, an Afghan national pegged as an Iranian government instrument, who was deported from the States following a stint in prison over robbery charges.
According to the criminal complaint that was opened in a Manhattan courtroom, Shakeri spilled the beans to investigators, revealing that back in September he was commanded by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard to produce a plan within seven days to provide surveillance and eventually take out Mr Trump.
Two other men, allegedly roped in for additional assassination missions—including one targeting a well-known Iranian American journalist—were arrestedlast Friday. While those characters are under lock and key, Shakeri is still at large in Iran.

In a delivered statement, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said: “There are few actors in the world that pose as grave a threat to the national security of the United States as does Iran.”
