Edo PDP alleges police bias in lead-up to governorship election

Aziegbemi stated, “We are troubled by the police’s actions as we approach the September 21 governorship election in the state.

“The party has observed instances suggesting that the police are acting in favor of the APC. The behavior of police operatives at both state and national levels indicates a bias towards the APC.”

He cited an incident involving the Deputy Director of Media for the PDP Election Campaign Council, Rev. Olu Martins, who was invited, arrested, and later arraigned in court based on a petition against him. Martins was granted bail after fulfilling the required conditions set by the trial judge.

Aziegbemi continued, “In contrast, I submitted a petition about the chairman of the state’s chapter of the APC, who threatened to mobilize youths to stone Governor Godwin Obaseki. Despite providing video evidence and a formal petition to the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, no action has been taken, unlike the swift response to the petition against Martins.

“Additionally, a tactical team of policemen has been deployed to arrest and harass at least 22 PDP members and leaders, who are currently under heavy surveillance.”

However, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Funsho Adegboye, refuted the PDP’s allegations of bias.
