Adedeji, who had previously served as the Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State from 2011 to 2015, has been touted as one of the prominent personalities likely to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde.

Makinde’s two terms as governor will end in 2027.

However, Adedeji has said that he has no intention of joining the governorship race. He emphasized that he wants to focus on his current task as the head of FIRS, a position he has held since his appointment by President Bola Tinubu in September 2023.
