“Back then, a new promoter in New York swore he had Timaya on lock. “I know him personally,” he said. That was when Timaya dropped ‘Dem Mama Soldiers,’ it was a hot record, so we didn’t think twice—we paid the deposit, started promoting hard.
No social media, just gorilla marketing. The city was really happy. Tickets were selling fast. This was the first event of its kind in Dallas, and people were READY. Then, a week before the show, I called a friend in Abuja, casually mentioned the concert. My friend just laughed and replied. “Timaya? I was with him last night. He didn’t say anything about going to America.” My stomach dropped. What do you mean? We had flyers, tickets sold, posters everywhere.
