Tiani alleges that this move is part of a broader strategy to destabilize Niger and its neighboring countries.
This claim was highlighted by Zagazola Makama, an expert on counterterrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin, in a post on his X account on Wednesday. According to Makama, General Tiani made these assertions during a recent speech, where he accused France of interfering in regional matters and pursuing hidden agendas.
“France has allegedly offered financial support to Nigerian officials to establish a military base in Borno State, aiming to destabilize our countries,” Tiani reportedly stated. He further claimed that Niger’s leadership had informed key Nigerian figures, including Nuhu Ribadu and Ahmed Abubakar Rufa’i, about what they described as a major conspiracy to disrupt peace in Niger.
Makama further quoted Tiani’s speech, which mentioned that the Gaba Forest, located along the border between Niger and Sokoto State in Nigeria, had been selected as a base by terrorists allegedly recruited by France and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The Nigerien leader suggested that Nigeria had been poorly advised in its dealings with these figures, implying that their involvement had played into France’s destabilization efforts across the region, particularly along the borders of Niger, Nigeria, Benin, and Burkina Faso.
This accusation is just one in a series of similar claims made by Tiani since he took power in a military coup in July 2023, marking a significant deterioration in the relationship between Niger and its former colonial ruler, France. Tiani’s administration has repeatedly accused France of meddling in Niger’s internal affairs and supporting opposition groups to undermine the junta.
Makama, however, expressed skepticism regarding the validity of Tiani’s accusations, suggesting that they appear more speculative than based on solid evidence. “These claims seem to be part of a broader narrative intended to distance Niger from Nigeria due to the latter’s close ties with France,” he said.
The expert also warned that continued, unfounded accusations against Nigeria could strain diplomatic relations between the two nations. He emphasized that such tensions risk undermining efforts to maintain stability in the Sahel region, where both countries, along with others, share common interests in combating terrorism and fostering peace.UPDATES: SEE HOW GUYS ARE USING LATEST iPHONE 16 Pro Max TO SCAN LADIES AND GET THEIR N4KED BODY. “General Tiani’s accusations not only jeopardize these collaborative initiatives but also threaten to create unnecessary divisions between nations that should be working together toward shared regional goals,” Makama concluded.…Tap To Read The Full Story Here.
