John Mahama, who regained the presidency after his decisive victory in the December elections, took the oath of office in the presence of various world leaders, including Tinubu. Mahama’s return to power follows his triumph over the ruling party’s candidate, securing 56.6% of the vote in a race marked by voter frustration over economic hardship, worsened by Ghana’s 2022 sovereign debt default.
In a country where political races have often been decided by narrow margins, Mahama’s victory marks a significant political shift. His inauguration ceremony was attended by notable international figures, including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, who was also among the invited guests.
Ahead of the inauguration, several governors from Nigeria’s opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) paid a visit to Mahama.
