Mikel Arteta has discussed Arsenal’s current injury crisis as they prepare to play Sporting CP in the Europa League round of 16 and Fulham in the Premier League.
The Gunners made 6 changes to their starting lineup for Thursday night’s match in Lisbon, leading many to speculate about the fitness of the team heading into Sunday’s clash with Fulham.
When asked about the reasons behind his starting 11 selections, Arteta said that “We have a lot of issues in the last few days, with players missing – and some are not even here.”
Regarding Gabriel Magalhaes’ and Thomas Partey’s place on the bench, Arteta said that all players must be fit and available in order for them to feature at this club.
Furthermore, Arteta mentioned that striker Gabriel Jesus is recovering from his World Cup injury but will not be rushed back into action as they need him to be confident and physically ready to compete.
