The incidents, which occurred in Oyo State, Anambra State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, sparking national grief and raising questions about the underlying causes of such tragedies.

These stampedes took place at events aimed at distributing food to vulnerable Nigerians as part of humanitarian efforts during the festive season. Okonkwo, speaking on Channels TV, criticized the government’s response, stating that President Bola Tinubu had shifted the blame for the tragic events onto the organizers, who were merely attempting to help people in dire need. He stressed that the widespread nature of the stampedes, which occurred in the east, west, and north of the country, indicated a broader issue: hunger and poverty have reached a critical level across all sectors of Nigerian society.

Okonkwo argued, “These people did not die in stampedes because they were poor. Poverty exists in every country. They died because they were desperately hungry. They knew that without that food, they would have nothing left to fall back on in their homes. This desperation led them to fight for N5,000 and grains of rice. The value of life under Tinubu’s government, sadly, has come to be about N5,000 and a few grains of rice.”

In the aftermath of the stampedes, President Tinubu defended his administration during a media chat, where he rated his government highly and justified his policies, including the controversial removal of the fuel subsidy. He insisted that these measures were necessary for the country’s long-term economic health.

However, Okonkwo was sharply critical of Tinubu’s self-assessment. “The worst statement the president made during his first Presidential Media Chat was scoring himself ‘excellent’,” Okonkwo said. “Tinubu has done the worst job by any president since Nigeria’s independence.”UPDATES: SEE HOW GUYS ARE USING LATEST iPHONE 16 Pro Max TO SCAN LADIES AND GET THEIR N4KED BODY. According to Okonkwo, the president’s actions, including the economic policies that have contributed to rising hardship, reflect poorly on his leadership and fail to address the immediate needs of Nigerians...Tap To Read The Full Story Here.
