It is widely acknowledged that the most successful artistes in the country are Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy.
During an interview on The Breakfast Club, Rema dismissed claims that, due to his age and experience in the music scene, people do not compare him with the “Afrobeats trio” despite his success.
When asked if he believes he deserves a spot next to Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid, Rema responded by saying, “With respect to the OGs, I am one of them.”
He noted that people are hesitant to recognize his status alongside the three biggest Afrobeats artistes.
“You know when they want to give you respect and you have to be 10 years in the game, I think my career didn’t play according to those rules. I was already breaking 7-year-old records when I was just 3 years in the game,” Rema added.
The ‘Calm Down’ singer also pointed out that some people wished his success didn’t come so quickly, following his rapid rise in the music industry.
