Speaking at a Special Thanksgiving Service organized by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Wike responded to recent comments made by Odili, who accused him of attempting to turn the state into his personal property.
Wike’s Response to Odili’s Allegations
Wike recounted how, during his tenure as governor, he took personal initiative to have Julius Berger construct a mansion for Odili to live in. According to Wike, Odili had been proud of the gesture, often inviting others to the house to praise the work he had done for him.
“He (Odili) was calling everyone to the house then, telling them, ‘Come and see what Wike has done for me. Wike has shown me love.’ He was taking them around the house,” Wike said.
Criticism of Odili’s Comments on Current Governor
Wike also addressed comments made by Odili regarding the performance of the current governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara. Wike expressed frustration over Odili praising Fubara’s achievements, despite the governor having been in office for less than a year. “The governor that all of us made has not spent one year in office, and the same Odili was already saying that the governor has beaten the records of all the past governors of Rivers State,” Wike remarked.
He questioned Odili’s credibility, asking, “You spent eight years as governor, and someone who hasn’t spent one year has surpassed your records, what manner of elder talk is that? Is that what an elder statesman should be known for?”
Wike’s Reflection on Their Relationship
