Sani stated that in 1995, a military tribunal sentenced them to life imprisonment for treason. He believed they would spend the rest of their lives in prison, but thanks to General Abdulsalami’s intervention, they were eventually set free.

Sani expressed his gratitude, saying: “I was one of those sentenced to life imprisonment for treason along with former President Obasanjo, many journalists, activists, and those who were at the forefront of the struggle for democracy in Nigeria.
