The incident began when Lorincz, 58, confronted Owens’ children, who were playing near her home. Lorincz allegedly threw a roller skate at Owens’ 10-year-old son, injuring him. When Owens approached Lorincz’s home to discuss the matter, Lorincz fired a gun through her closed front door, striking Owens in the chest and killing her.
Lorincz claimed she acted in self-defense, invoking Florida’s “stand your ground” law, but authorities ruled her actions unjustifiable. Evidence indicated that Lorincz acted out of anger rather than fear, as Owens was unarmed and did not attempt to forcibly enter the home.
