Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has left the national team’s camp following Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The development was confirmed in a brief statement shared on the Super Eagles’ official X page on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Adams was granted permission to leave camp to attend to his mother, who was hospitalised on Monday.
“Akor Adams has been granted permission to leave camp to go be with his mum, who was hospitalised yesterday.
“We’re sending prayers and strength to him and wishing his mum a quick recovery,” the statement read.
Despite receiving the news before Nigeria’s clash with Mozambique, Adams still started the match and went on to score the Super Eagles’ fourth goal against the Mambas.
His performance drew praise from fans, given the circumstances surrounding his departure.
It remains unclear whether the Super Eagles forward, who plays club football with Sevilla, will return in time for Nigeria’s quarter-final fixture on Saturday.
The Super Eagles are set to face either DR Congo or Algeria in the next round of the tournament.
