The suspension, which lasts one year without pay, also includes a two-year watch list period.

The decision was made at the NJC’s 107th Meeting, chaired by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, on November 13 and 14, 2024.

Five serving judicial officers faced sanctions for misconduct.

The council also recommended compulsory retirement for two Heads of Court who falsified their ages.

The chief judge of Imo State, Hon. Justice T. E. Chukwuemeka Chikeka, and Yobe State’s Grand Kadi, Hon. Kadi Babagana Mahdi, were recommended for compulsory retirement due to age falsification.

The council considered the Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee’s report, reviewing 30 petitions and establishing six committees for further investigation.
