Ahmed made this known in a post on X, where he broke down the states with the highest internally generated revenue (IGR) from their local governments in 2023.

According to his posts, Lagos state was the top contributor, generating N10.49 billion, while Ebonyi came in second with N6.13 billion. Kwara, Oyo, and Jigawa made up the top five, generating N3.35 billion, N3.11 billion, and N2.89 billion respectively.

Osun state finished last on the list, generating N204.42 million.

The total IGR for the 20 states resulted in a collective revenue of N37.05 billion for the year.

In 2023, only 20 states in Nigeria reported internally generated revenue (IGR) from their local governments, with a total collection amounting to N37.05 billion. The report shows Lagos State as the top contributor, generating N10.49 billion, while Osun State rounds off the list with N204.42 million.

Kano State, with 44 local governments, the highest number in the country and one of the largest populations, did not generate one Naira from its local governments in the period.

Northern states such as Jigawa, Gombe, and Kaduna also made the list.
