Ebiseeni recently joined the Labour Party and was introduced as the party’s flag bearer in Akure, the state’s capital, for the upcoming November 16 off-cycle governorship election. Previously, Ebiseeni was a gubernatorial aspirant in the Ondo PDP primary, where he finished third with 99 votes, behind Agboola Ajayi, the former deputy governor who won the primary.

At his unveiling, Ebiseeni noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allows for the substitution of candidates up to 90 days before the election, according to Section 33 of the Electoral Act. However, in a statement released on Wednesday, Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary of the Labour Party, stated that Ebiseeni has not yet resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and thus cannot be recognized as the LP’s candidate. Ifoh reaffirmed Ayodele Olorunfemi as the party’s legitimate governorship candidate, emphasizing that Olorunfemi’s name is listed on the final INEC roster for the Ondo State election.

Ifoh stressed that Dr. Olorunfemi emerged as the candidate following a primary election overseen by INEC, and his nomination has been officially submitted and published. He also warned against any attempts at impersonation or illegitimate claims to the party’s candidacy, urging security agencies to take action against such activities.

The Labour Party remains confident in Dr. Olorunfemi’s candidacy, describing him as a grassroots politician, a prominent Labour leader, and a respected educationist.
