A heartbroken man has publicly accused Island Maternity Hospital of negligence and incompetence following the tragic death of his wife, who passed away shortly after undergoing a cesarean section at the facility.

The grieving husband shared his devastating experience on Instagram, detailing the complications during the surgery that he believes led to his wife’s untimely demise.

His wife, who had given birth to a healthy baby boy on October 29, 2024, passed away in the early hours of October 30. She leaves behind her newborn son and a daughter.

In a post shared via his Instagram account, Kelion Arts, the man recounted the events leading up to his wife’s death.

He explained that during her scheduled cesarean section, unexpected complications arose, including the unapproved removal of fibroids.

Man demands justice after wife dies due to hospital’s alleged mistakes

According to the husband, medical staff delayed the procedure by repeatedly requesting additional blood and medication. Despite efforts to provide the necessary supplies, the situation worsened, leading to his wife suffering a cardiac arrest after multiple transfusions and emergency procedures.

The grieving man expressed his frustration with the lack of communication from the medical team, claiming he was never informed about the fibroid removal and would have refused consent had he known.

He alleged that the hospital’s actions were a result of incompetence and negligence, which ultimately caused his wife’s death.

In his post, the man described how he was initially informed that his wife’s cesarean section had gone smoothly and that the baby was delivered safely.

However, moments later, he was asked to source more blood due to complications caused by fibroids blocking the surgical site. When his wife’s condition worsened, he was told that additional emergency surgery was needed, and he rushed to source more blood.

Despite his efforts to obtain supplies, including blood from multiple sources, his wife’s condition continued to deteriorate. She was rushed to the ICU, where she fought for her life, but after receiving her seventh pint of blood, she went into cardiac arrest and did not survive.

Man demands justice after wife dies due to hospital’s alleged mistakes

The man has vowed to seek legal action against the hospital for their alleged role in his wife’s death, calling on lawyers to assist with a potential lawsuit.

In his words:

“Island maternity took my wife’s life due to incompetence and stupidity.

“My wife was scheduled for a CS on the 29th of October 2024. That morning we arrived the hospital and were booked. I made payments for everything including delivery of 2 pints of -ve O blood. She was the 3rd person booked for the day. The first 3 people stayed an average of 30 minutes in the theatre before both baby and mother where brought out.

“When it was her turn after 3 people, she was wheeled into the theatre. About 15 minutes later my son was brought out and shown to me. 12:26pm. A pretty baby boy.

“I expected my wife would be out in the next 15 but a nurse came to meet me that they needed me to source for more blood because there’s fibroid in my wife’s womb blocking the pathway to stitch the womb and they cut it off hence the delay. ‘Cut it off’? Who asked for them to cut it off?

“They asked me to go get 2 more pints of blood (NB: this blood is not just easy to get). Luckily for me I made calls and we got the 2 pints.

“They brought her out, hooked intravenous thingies on her and stuff. A few hours passed. Nurse asked me to go get Rogham from the pharmacy.

“While I was there I got a call from my BIL that my wife was being rushed into the theatre again. On rushing back the nurse told me her tummy was swelling due to blood accumulation and they had to take her in for emergency surgery. My BIL told me my wife complained of difficulty breathing. They had already gotten my BIL to sign a form for complete removal of her uterus.

“After more than 30 minutes she was brought out and wheeled to the ICU where she struggled for her life. I had to rally for 4 more pints of blood which included renting the hospital ambulance all the way to gbagada and then yaba to get blood plasma then getting 4 more pints of blood ( they even had to use o+ blood) from wherever we could get from.

“3:00am She was on the 7th pint when she went into cardiac arrest and never made it back.

“My wife died due to the hospitals incompetence because I they had informed me about carrying out a fibroid operation with CS I would have told them not to.

“I need lawyers who are willing to help us on a litigation against this hospital.”...READ THE FULL STORY FROM SOURCE ↔️
