Man Utd handed ‘extra fee’ to sack Erik ten Hag as contract clause emerges

Manchester United could be forced to pay an additional hefty compensation fee to Erik ten Hag if they decide to part ways with the head coach after their FA Cup victory. The Red Devils are currently undergoing a season review, which will determine Ten Hag’s future at the club, following their surprise Wembley win over local rivals Manchester City.

Last season saw United finish in eighth place in the Premier League, their lowest position in 34 years, which ordinarily would see them miss out on a European spot.

This failure to secure a place in Europe meant that Ten Hag was facing a 25 per cent cut to his £9million-a-year salary, reducing it to £6.75m. However, United’s impressive 2-1 victory over City secured them a spot in next season’s Europa League, saving Ten Hag from a significant salary reduction as per his contract terms according to the Daily Mirror.

Like many of United’s players, Ten Hag’s contract is heavily incentivised, with his salary fluctuating based on whether he leads the team to the Champions League, Europa League, Europa Conference League or no European competition at all.

Now that a Europa League spot has been secured, any compensation United would have to pay Ten Hag if they were to dismiss him would be closer to his full £9m-a-year salary, rather than the reduced amount had they lost to Pep Guardiola’s side as many expected.

A season review, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS football operations team, is still underway with no set completion date.

The Red Devils are set to return for pre-season training in a month, with their first friendly match against Norwegian team Rosenborg scheduled for July 15. Speculation is rife about potential replacements for Ten Hag, should he be shown the door, with names like England manager Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino all considered options....Continue The Full Reading.>’.
