In a press conference held on Friday, ahead of their upcoming match against Manchester United on Sunday, Maresca explained, “At this moment, the balance of the team is vital. I believe that Romeo and Moi contribute significantly not only with their skills but also with their physical presence and strength in the midfield.

“This balance allows us to implement different tactical options, like pushing Malo Gusto into different roles when we are not utilizing Enzo.”

Maresca also addressed the media’s anticipation regarding Fernandes’s absence from the starting lineup, stating, “I understand there may be curiosity around Enzo’s situation, but it’s quite straightforward: he is not starting right now.

“We have a packed fixture schedule ahead, and he will definitely get his opportunities in the future. His not playing in this match doesn’t indicate a long-term exclusion; it’s simply the selection we’ve made for this particular game.”

Additionally, the Chelsea boss confirmed that winger Jadon Sancho will miss the Premier League encounter against Manchester United due to illness.

Sancho has been experiencing health issues over the past few days, which means he won’t be able to play, not only because of his condition but also because he is ineligible to face his parent club, Manchester United.

Maresca noted, “Aside from Jadon, our squad is looking good and fully fit for the match. Everyone is available to contribute, except for Jadon, who has been feeling unwell recently. However, even without this illness, he wouldn’t be able to play this game due to the regulations around players facing their parent clubs.”
