The Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa, declared the results at a press conference on Monday, December 9, more than 48 hours after the polls closed on Saturday.
John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was declared the winner of the presidential election with a total vote of 6,328,397, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who amassed a total vote of 4,657,304.
Reacting to the election process, NANS-Ghana shared a post on their official Facebook page congratulating Mahama on his decisive victory and the first female Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, for her remarkable achievement.
“With great joy, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to John Dramani Mahama on his election as the President of the Republic of Ghana. We also celebrate Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for making history as the first female Vice President of Ghana – a truly remarkable achievement,” part of the post reads.
Recognizing the election exercise as free and fair, the union commended the citizens of Ghana for exercising their democratic rights peacefully and the Electoral Commission of Ghana for ensuring credibility and transparency before, during, and after the electoral process.
