The attack, in which a man drove his vehicle into a crowded market, has shocked both local and international communities.
In a statement issued on Saturday, signed by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the acting spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian government expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to the government and people of Germany. The statement read, “The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express her sincere condolences to the Government and the People of the Federal Republic of Germany following a car attack on a crowded Christmas market on Friday, 20th December, 2024, in Magdeburg, Germany.”
The Nigerian government further condemned the attack, calling it “highly condemnable” and extended its thoughts to the families of the victims. “The unfortunate incident, which led to the death of five persons and over two hundred injured, is highly condemnable. Our thoughts are with the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and the families of all those impacted by the dreadful action,” the statement continued.
