The Nigerian Army has announced the commencement of applications for its Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026, offering eligible Nigerians an opportunity to be commissioned as officers in specialised fields as part of efforts to strengthen national security operations.
In a statement, the Army disclosed that the DSSC programme is open to both qualified civilians and serving military personnel who meet the stipulated requirements. Successful candidates will be commissioned into key professional corps of the Nigerian Army, including engineering, signals, medical services, electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as the education corps, in line with the Army’s need for technical and professional expertise.
According to the announcement, the application process is entirely free and will be conducted online through the official Nigerian Army recruitment portal. Interested applicants are expected to submit their applications between January 7 and February 4, 2026.
The Army also provided contact lines for further enquiries, noting that prospective applicants can reach designated officers on 08179269294 or 08109959294 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily for guidance and clarification.
The recruitment exercise comes at a time when the Nigerian Army is intensifying operations against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality across the country. Recent military operations have recorded successes, including the neutralisation of terrorists, the rescue of kidnapped victims and the disruption of criminal networks in several states.
Security analysts describe the DSSC intake as a strategic move aimed at enhancing the Army’s technical capacity and professional competence, which are critical to sustaining ongoing security operations and addressing emerging threats.
The Nigerian Army urged eligible candidates to apply early and rely solely on information from its official channels to avoid falling victim to misinformation or fraud, while reaffirming its commitment to a transparent, credible and merit-based selection process.
