Shettima was warmly welcomed by Abdulmohsen Bin Nayef Bin Hamed, the Deputy Governor of Madina Region, and Nigerian diplomatic officials, including the Consulate General of Jeddah, Ambassador Mu’azzam Nayaya.

The Vice President’s visit to Saudi Arabia will see him visiting the Holy Mosque of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Madina and other significant religious sites. Following his time in Madina, Shettima is set to proceed to Mecca, where he will perform the Lesser Hajj, also known as Umrah, from December 16 to 19, 2024.

Shettima’s visit comes after he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the commissioning of a $315 million oil production and storage facility owned by Oriental Energy Limited (OERL) in Dubai.
The commissioning event marked an important milestone for Nigeria’s oil sector, and Shettima was seen off at the airport by notable figures including the Executive Chairman of OERL, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, and the Executive Vice Chairman of OERL, Engr. Goni M. Sheikh.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Shettima is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on December 20, 2024, with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jeddah. The meeting will focus on advancing co-financing arrangements for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ Phase II), a project aimed at boosting Nigeria’s agricultural sector. Additionally, they will discuss enhancing coordination of IsDB projects in Nigeria to support the country’s broader economic development.

The Vice President’s diplomatic engagement with the Islamic Development Bank aims to further strengthen ties between Nigeria and the international financial institution. The focus will be on supporting Nigeria’s agricultural transformation and addressing challenges related to food security and economic growth.
