The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has dismissed allegations that Nigeria is engaged in military cooperation with France. Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday, Ribadu clarified that Nigeria’s relationship with France is strictly economic and not militaristic.

Allegations from Niger’s Junta Leader

The statement comes in response to claims by Niger’s military junta leader, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, who accused Nigeria of allowing France to use its territory as a base for destabilizing Niger. Ribadu described the accusation as baseless and implausible, labeling it an attempt to strain relations between the two nations.

Nigeria’s Position

Ribadu emphasized that Nigeria has no history of hosting foreign military bases and has consistently resisted such efforts, even from global powers like the United Kingdom and the United States.

Nigeria has no history of hosting foreign military bases. Even our former colonizer, the United Kingdom, has never established a base here. We have consistently resisted such attempts, including from the United States,” Ribadu said.

He highlighted that Niger, in contrast, has hosted foreign military bases, including one by the United States, which was recently expelled by the junta.

Economic Ties with France

Ribadu reiterated that Nigeria’s relationship with France has always been centered on economic cooperation rather than military collaboration. He argued that severing ties with France due to Niger’s internal issues would be unreasonable.

“While Niger’s leadership may have issues with France, it is unreasonable to expect Nigeria to sever ties with France over Niger’s internal disputes. Our relationship with France is strictly economic and has no military implications.”

Commitment to Regional Peace

Ribadu affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to maintaining peaceful coexistence with its neighbors, citing the country’s long-standing friendly relations with Chad, Benin Republic, and Cameroon.

Nigeria has no intention of sabotaging or destabilizing Niger. We have always maintained peaceful relations with our neighbors, including Cameroon, Benin Republic, and Chad. Why would we suddenly have a reason to be in conflict with Niger? It simply doesn’t make sense.”

Call for Cooperation

Ribadu urged Niger’s leadership to prioritize peace and collaboration with Nigeria, emphasizing that both nations must work together to ensure stability in the region.

“We will not allow our country to be used as a tool for destabilizing Niger. We hope that Niger’s leadership will understand this and work with us as allies and brothers to ensure peace and stability in the region.”LATEST TRICKS/UPDATES: SEE HOW GUYS ARE USING THE LATEST iPHONE 16 Pro Max TO SCAN LADIES AND GET THEIR N4KED BODY.
